The Power of I Am Not

“You, don’t have no more kids”! The elderly woman said emphatically as she placed her hands on my belly, my womb, my creative birthing space designed by God to procreate.

She proclaimed words that had the potential to abort my destiny. At the time I was pregnant with Bellange, my now seven-year-old daughter. Though Bella was my fourth baby, before Bella was born, I’d had a miscarriage.

From that moment on, I was determined that I wouldn’t take a smooth pregnancy for granted, but I’d handle this gift of bringing a child into this world with respect, honoring and protecting each moment.

I jumped back, standing in the front of the church, immediately renouncing her declaration, “Oh no! I’m going to have as many babies as God will give me”. Little did she or I know that years later I’d have another son, Journee.

What if I’d accepted her proclamation? What if I’d laughed and brushed it off to be polite? Would I have this blessing in my life?

What if I’d gone with the “no more kids” crew, every time someone asked me am I having any more children? Whether it’s someone laying hands on you and cursing your womb, or it’s someone jokingly proclaiming death, but “oh it’s not really that serious”, there comes a time when you can no longer be polite.

The Word of the Lord must be greater in your mouth than any other word.

Proverbs 18:21 says that death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

When God created heaven and earth, He used the power of His Word. The Word of God holds the very essence of God – and you were made in His image. So your words, your mother’s words, your husband’s words, your friends’ words have power to create and to destroy.

There is a reward or consequence to every word spoken so we must be intentional not only about every word that we speak but every word that we agree with. We are not to take this lightly.

I want you to take some time to write down every negative word spoken over your life. Every word where someone degraded your physical appearance, your intellect, the color of your skin, your femininity, your beauty, your strength, your voice, your spirit, your life or your future. I want you to declare this.

I AM NOT.

Replace every lie that the enemy has planted in your life with the truth of God’s Word. If the enemy called you ugly, declare “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”.

If the enemy said you don’t hear God’s voice, declare “when I draw nigh to God, He draws nigh to me”.

There are some lies that you’ve agreed with years ago that could be affecting your life today, because you never renounced your agreement with the false identity that the enemy tried to force on you.

Join me on Monday on IG at as we declare, “I AM NOT”.
